2011 is the Year of the Afghan – here at American Yarns anyway….

I have decided that 2011 is the Year of the Afghan!

Why, you ask? several reasons..

1. I have too many WIPs which are afghans which need to be finished
2. They’re impressive but don’t cost much
3. The crocheted ones are fast
4. They make fabulous TV-watching projects
5. They’re great for having fun with colour – after all, you don’t wear them so if they’re all in your favourite hot fluoro colours – who cares!

So that’s why I have chosen three CAL projects this year which are afghans – one traditional, one baby and one which can be finished in time for Christmas – time to start planning for the next one people!

Okay, so here goes:

February CAL – Rainbow Ripple Afghan
No pic as I am making this pattern up, but it uses 7 skeins of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in pretty rainbow colours. Details in a previous blog post and kit can be bought here

April CAL – Baby Month! – Punch Fun Baby Blanket
Only uses two BIG balls of yarn – one multi and one white – bright baby blanket which is soft, machine-washable and not too ‘baby-looking’.

kit available here

July CAL – Circles in Squares Blanket

This one is crocheted in Bernat Super Value acrylic – and if you’re not an acrylic fan, after using Bernat Super Value – you will be! It is SOOOOO soft and crochets up well and doesn’t feel at all ‘acrylicy’ – you’ll love it! And the blanket is large – 132 x 157 cm – single bed size (almost – give or take 20 cm along the long side). The kit costs $99 and contains 15 balls of yarn in 8 colours and is available to pre-order now.

So I guess that’s it – keep your eyes peeled on our blog for updates particularly as the February CAL starts in 3 weeks. I will post regular blog updates on each CAL as I will be making them too!

So excited – can’t wait!
