4.5mm crochet hook

*Gauge: 9 DC = 2.5 inches. Gauge is not really important – try to use a crochet hook which gives an airy fabric – not too tight, nor too loose.

Pattern:

CH – chain
DC – double crochet (UK treble crochet)
DC3TOG – double crochet 3 together (decrease) (UK – TC3TOG)

With colour A, Chain 186 – 13 x pattern repeats of 14 stitches each plus a starting chain of 4 – this will give you a lapghan – which is the size I am making. You may increase or decrease the size of your starting chain in increments of 14 stitches.

Row 1 – 1 DC in 4th chain from hook, *1 DC in each of next 5 ch, DC3TOG over next 3 ch, 1 DC in each of next 5 ch, 3 DC in next chain; repeat from * across, ending last repeat with 2 DC in last chain – 13 zig-zag peaks.

Row 2 – 3 chain, 1 DC in first DC (right next to starting chain), * 1 DC in each of next 5 DC, DC3TOG over next 3 DC, 1 DC in each of next 5 DC, 3 DC in next DC. Repeat from * across, ending last repeat with 2 DC in the top of the turning chain.

Row 3 – repeat row 2, changing to colour B in last stitch.

Row 4-6 – repeat row 2 in colour B

Subsequent rows – do three rows in each colour. Keep repeating the colour sequence until you run out of yarn!

Happy Crocheting!
